It begins with the body.
Although movement might not be the first thing that comes to mind when considering "acting classes," it is a crucial element of an actor's training. The body is the vessel through which behavior is displayed, and simply put, it never lies. This is why developing the body as a tool for the expression of a character’s circumstance, journey, or energy is essential.
At its most basic, an established practice in movement allows for freedom in acting and the endurance to meet the demands of various roles and performances. Beyond physical conditioning, movement provides the necessary tools for transformation and opens access to an expansive imagination and emotional life.
Beginning transformation.
While our approach to acting training is different from most, our ongoing classes are dedicated to expanding the process, allowing for a deeper, fuller, richer craft.
The journey starts here.

Fundamentals of movement
FUNDAMENTALS OF MOVEMENT is a dynamic course that explores a range of actor movement techniques, including Suzuki, Laban, and Viewpoints. These methodologies are designed to help actors cultivate physical awareness and develop a skilled, expressive use of the body. Students will begin to identify their own habitual movement patterns and learn how to move beyond them, embracing a state of transformation. The course will also investigate the connection between the external physicality and the internal emotional, imaginative life of the actor. This exploration will provide students with the means to harness their physical instrument to access a rich inner world.

Contact! 2.0
CONTACT! 2.0 is a class that builds on the concepts introduced in CONTACT! Students will continue to use the power of the body and the electricity of touch to create dynamic storytelling and find confidence as performers, this time applying the work to scenes from plays by playwrights including Sarah Kane, Alice Birch, Will Eno, Tennessee Williams, Henrik Ibsen, and William Shakespeare. Additionally, class practitioners will learn how to use the tools found in CONTACT! to self-direct these scenes with additional guidance from Vernal & Sere’s guest instructor Sawyer Estes. We’ll continue to explore elements of contact improvisation and find more comfort in being present with others and the self to embrace empowered vulnerability.
This is a class all about growth and exploration. CONTACT! will help you play, create, and find freedom in your choices and instrument. This class is designed for people with experience in acting and moving.

The drop-in classes will encourage a deeper practice of the Suzuki work while engaging with alternative movement methods for embodied understanding of performance. These drop-in sessions are offerings to provide time for practice and creative exploration as we head to the end of the year. While these drop-ins are designed for folks with previous experience, you are welcome to attend if you're a beginner or have a general curiosity about the technique.
These sessions are pay-what-you-can.
